The Board of Directors is pleased to announce it has agreed in principal to a girls youth co-op with Becker Big Lake. There are many details to work through as we finalize a formal co-op agreement.  Below is a FAQ to address some of the questions you may have. There will be an informational meeting held at the arena (PLYO room) on Monday, March 25th at 8:00pm. If you have any additional questions, please send them to the Girls Coordinator, Christina Aune.  Questions will be answered and addressed at the informational meeting.

FAQ

  • Which hockey district will the co-op operate under? District 10
  • Where will home games be played and practices held? In Princeton until a Big Lake Arena is built. When a Big Lake arena is built, some terms of the agreement will be re-negotiated
  • When will a Big Lake Arena be built? There are no immediate plans to build an arena. That said; they are actively working on it. Funding is the main obstacle. It is also possible an arena won’t be built
  • How many teams will there be in 2013-2014? With our combined numbers we are forecasting (1) 12U (1) 10U and (2) 8U teams.
  • What if my player is 14U eligible? The board will assist in finding you a place to play in 2013-2014 or you can play at the High School level
  • Where or how will I register? TBD
  • What is the cost? Pricing will be the same as Princeton has charged historically
  • Who will coach? TBD
  • How will tryouts be handled? TBD – 2013-2014 there won’t be a need for tryouts at 12U or 10U. 8U level assessments are TBD
  • What is the team name? We will form a new identity (name/colors) for all girls to be part of, regardless of location. Send your team name and color suggestions to the Girls Coordinator, Christina Aune
  • Who will manage the co-op? The President, Vice President and Girls Coordinator from each association. Regardless of the team name, a new organization will be formed for the co-op to operate under
  • What is the length of the co-op agreement? 3 - 5 years
  • Why is the board agreeing to this co-op agreement? The board’s goal is to build, strengthen and ensure a successful girl’s youth program exists, both now and into the future
  • How does this affect the Girls High School co-op with Becker Big Lake? It doesn’t, the youth and HS co-ops are managed independently. This youth co-op does support the HS co-op and will work towards its success. The challenge is increasing our overall numbers without pushing the HS Girls program to “AA” level of play. Right now the HS co-op is operating under an exception to remain “A”

Next Steps

  • Formalize and approve the final agreement
  • Seek District 5 & 10 approval (has been pre-approved by both districts)
