TINY TIGERS (GIRLS & YOUTH)

This level is designed for beginning players 4-6 years old.  However, players’ abilities vary greatly and it is not unusual to have players of these ages at other Mite levels.  At the Tiny Tigers level, hockey is purely instructional. Development of skills and having fun are the main goals.  Practice times are one day per weekend and there are no scheduled games or travel.

EQUIPMENT:
PYHA has full sets of equipment, skates and helmets for a limited number of players. Equipment will be checked out to families on a first come first serve basis and will require a deposit check.  Jerseys will also be provided by PYHA. For any equipment not turned in at the end of the season, the player will be assessed full replacement cost.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
Skates & helmets, shin pads, elbow pads, breezers, shoulder pads, mouth guard, hockey gloves, hockey stick, and supporter (not included in PYHA equipment sets) are required.  A neck guard is strongly encouraged.

MITE AND GIRLS 8U

These levels are usually for those 6-8 years old.  However, because players’ abilities vary greatly, it is not unusual to have younger players at this level.  If your player was a Tiny Tiger last year, he/she may be ready for a Mite level.  The evaluation will benefit parents in deciding the appropriate level for the player. Please contact the Mite Coordinator to discuss any questions or concerns.

The main focus of these levels is teaching the skills of skating, puck handling and passing.  Mite and 8U players are rotated to play all positions; wing, center, defense, and goalie.  Mite and 8U hockey is also instructional.

The Coaches and Mite Coordinator(s) will coordinate teams for these levels after the higher-level tryouts are complete. All players will be evaluated on their skating ability, puck handling, passing and receiving per HEP Skills Assessment guidelines.  There is traveling at this level throughout District 10.
