COACH CODE OF CONDUCT

I hereby pledge to live up to the PYHA Coach Code of Conduct and understand that it is inclusive of PYHA, District 10, Minnesota Hockey and USA Hockey rules and guidelines. 

  1. I will show good sportsmanship at all times.
  2. I will encourage all players to play to the best of their ability
  3. I will provide supervision and discipline int the locker room(s) at all times.
  4. I will keep locker rooms clean.
  5. I will provide proper ice time to all players.
  6. I will follow and respect the direction of the Hockey Development Committee. 
  7. I will provide a positive learning environment for all players.
  8. I will reinforce the positive aspects of any game and team's efforts, while refraining from ridiculing or verbally confronting any player, coach, referee, or other spectator. 
  9. I will teach sportsmanship by example and respect for others. Obscene or vulgar language or the use of a physical gesture that is considered vulgar is not tolerated.
  10. I will recruit no more than 2-3 assistant coaches who are able to attend practices and games.
  11. I will expect good teamwork from all players.
  12. I will do my best to make hockey a fun experience for my team.
  13. I will enforce and support the Player Code of Conduct.
  14. I will enforce and support the Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
  15. I will recognize the team represents PYHA, and a coach shall not allow any behavior, on or off the ice, that reflects poorly on the team, PYHA or the community. 
  16. I will hold mandatory Parent/Coach meetings for questions and answers last the beginning and throughout the season, or as needed.
  17. I will attend coaches meeting and clinics as directed by the Hockey Development Committee.
  18. I will set up scrimmages. (It is the team's responsibility to request and pay for referees per District 10 guidelines. Mite/8U is handled in-house).
  19. In the event of a conflict, I will wait twenty-four hours before phoning the respective party to have a constructive discussion regarding the concern(s). Direct communication should be the first step in attempting to resolve any concern(s). I will never address the concern(s) directly in front of any player(s) or while at the arena. If I have additional concerns, I will contact the level representative and follow PYHA's conflict resolution process.
  20. I will place the emotional and physical well-being of any player ahead of any personal desire to win.
  21. I will support an alcohol, tobacco, and drug free sports environment and will adhere to all PYHA guidelines regarding substance abuse and weapons.
  22. I will insist that my team treat other players, coaches, fans, and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
  23. I will remember the game is for the children and not the adults.

Any coach misconduct not specifically alluded to above will be dealt with on an individual basis in accordance wit the PYHA conflict resolution process.

Coaches breaking any rules will be subject to disciplinary action. The first violation will result in up to a 2 week suspension from all PYHA sanctioned activities. A second violation will result in up to suspension for the remainder of the season from PYHA sanctioned activities. Further discipline may be levied by PYHA concerning other PYHA sanctioned activities.

The Board of Directors reserves the right to make changes of coaches or managers when necessary.
